Jason Neelis received his B.A. in Classics and South Asian Studies from Brown University, M.A. in Asian Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and Ph.D. in Asian Languages and Literature from the University of Washington (2001), specializing in South Asian Buddhist literature and epigraphy.
He is currently rewriting his dissertation on trade networks and the transmission of Buddhism. Articles, book chapters, and reviews related to this research have appeared in the Bulletin of the Asia Institute, On the Cusp of an Era, South Asian Archaeology 1997, and Karakoram in Transition. He is also working on an edition of first century CE avadana narratives written on birch-bark scrolls from ancient Gandhara as a participant in the University of Washington / British Library Early Buddhist Manuscripts Project . At the University of Florida he teaches courses on Buddhism, Asian religions, and Sanskrit.
